Downey Jr. was last seen playing the iconic superhero in 2012's "The Avengers."
"After 'The Avengers' we thought, 'What are we going to do? Something more epic?' So we figured let's get back to telling stories," Downey Jr. said at the premiere.
Paltrow, who plays Stark Industries CEO and Iron Man love interest Pepper Potts, said she had a blast returning to the film series.
"It was wonderful. I always love coming to the 'Iron Man' set. And I love working with Robert. This one was extra fun for me because Pepper got to branch out a little bit and have her moment of glory. So it was great."
Co-stars Don Cheadle and Sir Ben Kingsley also spoke about the movie on the red carpet. Watch video above to see them.
"Iron Man 3" opens in theaters on Friday.
