Greg Gumbel
Greg Gumbel returns to CBS this year and will host the coverage of the 1998 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship. He will also serve as lead play-by-play announcer for CBS Sports' NFL coverage.
Gumbel previously worked for CBS from October 1989 through May 1994, calling play-by-play for CBS's college basketball coverage from 1990-94.
He also served as the primetime anchor of CBS Sports' coverage of the 1994 Olympic Winter Games and as co-anchor for the CBS Network's weekday morning broadcasts of the 1992 Olympic Winter Games.
Gumbel's other host roles have included Major League Baseball and college football broadcasts for CBS Sports.
He called regular season and playoff NBA and the College World Series championship games, and worked for CBS on a part-time basis in September 1988 as an NFL play-by-play announcer.
At NBC Gumbel worked as a host and play-by-play announcer of the NFL on NBC pre-game show as well as NBC's Super Bowl pre-game shows in 1996 and 1998.
His other duties at NBC included hosting the pre-game show for the 1994 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, and as play-by-play announcer on NBC's Baseball Night in America regular-season and post-season games.
He also served as play-by-play announcer for NBA on NBC and was the host of NBC's daytime coverage of the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.
His pre-CBS broadcast experience includes includes host roles for the NBA's New York Knicks and New York Yankees baseball for Madison Square Garden Network, as well as three other weekly MSG programs where he won a local Emmy Award.
He also worked for ESPN, WMAQ-TV Chicago and WFAN Radio in New York City.
Born May 3, 1946 in New Orleans, Gumbel graduated from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa in 1967 with a degree in English.
He now lives in Orlando, Fla.
