Good Morning...from 220 Miles Above the Earth
Talk about one hell of a view view. For the crew of the International Space Station, the spectacular is fairly commonplace, as these photos might suggest.
Every 92 minutes, the International Space Station completes one trip around the globe. Some 220 miles above the Earth, the craft is moving at a 17,200 mile-per-hour clip. Viewed another way, the astronauts on board the ISS get to see 15 (or 16) sunrises and sunsets every day.
The time-lapse photos on this page show approximately half an orbit, starting with day break in Northern Europe (top photograph) to sunset southeast of Australia.
