"Good effort!" fan: Encouraging or mocking Heat?
(CBS News) The Heat suffered the most demoralizing loss of their season Tuesday night in Miami but one fan was still bubbly with encouragement.
As the Heat sulked off the court after falling 94-90 to the Celtics in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals, a voice was picked up by ESPN cameras, repeatedly shouting "Good job! Good effort!"
LeBron James, Ronny Turiaf and Shane Battier don't seem to acknowledge the fan as they walk toward the locker room tunnel.
The unseen fan sounds like a youngster who is genuinely trying to lift the spirits of the dejected Miami players. Ah, but we live in a cynical world and one has to wonder: Is this the voice of an innocent kid trying to cheer up the home team or a callous Celtics fan delighting in the schadenfreude of the moment?
Either way, the sports world took notice. As Larry Brown Sports notes, the phrase "good effort" became a trending topic on Twitter and someone has already created a parody Twitter account called "Good Job Kid," which already has over 2,000 followers
