Glenn Close on her Oscar-nominated "Albert Nobbs" role
(CBS) Perhaps the sixth time will be the charm for actress Glenn Close.
The "Fatal Attraction" star has been nominated for five Academy Awards, but has yet to win the coveted statuette. Close received her sixth Oscar nomination on Tuesday, this time in the best actress category for "Albert Nobbs," in which she portrays a 19th-century Irish woman who pretends to be a man.

Close first starred as the titular character back in 1982, in an off-Broadway production based on a short story by Irish author George Moore. Over the last 30 years, she has been dedicated to bringing the tale to the big screen in a film adaptation.
"I had only done one movie when I did the original 'Albert Nobbs' on stage," Close told CBSNews.com in an interview back in December. "So I had everything to learn. And I think it all came into play when I came back to this role all these years later."
A passion project of hers, Close even had a hand in the screenplay for "Albert Nobbs." She explained, "I bought the rights to the original material and developed the script and eventually became the co-writer...I felt the story very deeply and I loved writing it."
The actress faced an uphill battle in getting this project off the ground, as she recognized that some audiences may take issue with the film's themes. "This particular story is so different and in many cases hard for people to imagine that I never resented that people didn't get it. I thought it was a tricky thing to get," she said.
Mia Wasikowska ("Alice in Wonderland"), who portrays a female love interest for Close in the film, admitted that she was in awe of her veteran co-star: "She was producer-writer-actor, she's got so many hats that she's wearing on this movie...She really did [it all here]. It's her baby."
With a number of nominations under its belt (including Oscar nods for Close, supporting actress Janet McTeer and best makeup), Close's "baby" is likely making her proud. The Academy Awards will be handed out on Feb. 26th. "Albert Nobbs" opens in theaters on Jan. 27.
