Girl, 12, accused of trying to poison mom pleads guilty
BOULDER, Colo. - A 12-year-old Colorado girl accused of trying to poison her mother after her iPhone privileges were revoked has been sentenced to a year of probation and mental health treatment.
The Daily Camera reports that as part of a plea agreement, prosecutors dropped an attempted first-degree murder charge. The Boulder County girl pleaded guilty Tuesday to a single charge of second-degree assault.
Prosecutors say the girl put bleach into her mother's breakfast smoothie March 2, leaving the woman feeling ill. Investigators say later in the week the girl poured bleach into a water carafe her mother kept in the bedroom.
On the first occasion, the mother smelled bleach and thought her daughter used it to clean the glass. On the second, the mother told authorities she confronted her daughter and learned of her plans.
