German Police Nab Drunken Owl, Had Too Much Schnapps

NEW YORK (CBS) After a night of partying, a wild German owl that had apparently discovered two discarded bottles of Schnapps, got so drunk that it got picked up by police.

According to Spiegel Online, police in southern Germany captured a drunk brown owl after reports that a bird was interfering with traffic.

The site reports the owl didn't appear to be injured, but reportedly had one of its eyelids drooping and appeared to be inebriated.

"It wasn't staggering around and we didn't breathalyze it but there were two little bottles of Schapps in the immediate vicinity," a spokesman for the police in the southwestern city of Pforzheim told Spiegel Online. "We took it to a local bird expert who has treated alcoholized birds before and she has been giving it lots of water."

Police said the bird was released once it had sobered up.
