Georgina Bloomberg, Seriously Injured in Riding Accident, Faces New Tests
NEW YORK (CBS) Tests today will determine the extent of the injuries New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's 27-year-old daughter, Georgina Bloomberg, suffered when she fell off her horse during an equestrian competition in upstate New York Friday.
Bloomberg, who is a professional show jumper, was briefly knocked unconscious when her saddle "unexpectedly came loose and slipped" during a jump during the Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament on Friday, according to spokesman Kenneth Kraus.
A witness told People magazine that when she regained consciousness, she was able to walk off the ring. She later sought treatment and was diagnosed with a concussion. and fracture to her spine.
"It wasn't until the following morning that she had back pain and went to the hospital," the spokesman said. "I talked to her yesterday. She said her head was fine."
Bloomberg will undergo further examination today, but is reportedly "resting comfortably."
How is the mayor holding up?
"The mayor is very concerned, as any father would be," Stu Loeser, a spokesman for the mayor, said.
