George Zimmerman's father says Trayvon Martin threatened to kill his son
(CBS/WKMG/AP) LAKE MARY, Fla. - The father of George Zimmerman says Fla. teen Trayvon Martin threatened to kill his son on the night of Martin's fatal shooting.
"Trayvon Martin said something to the effect of, 'You're going to die now' or 'You're going to die tonight,' something to that effect," Robert Zimmerman told Orlando station WOFL-TV. "He continued to beat George. At some point, George pulled his pistol. Did what he did."
Robert Zimmerman spoke to WOFL in an interview that aired Wednesday night. He says his son was suspicious because of several break-ins and thought it was strange for someone to be walking between the town homes on a rainy night.
He reiterated what other George Zimmerman supporters have said. He says his son was walking back to his car and Martin confronted him.
He says Martin broke his son's nose and knocked him to the concrete.
George Zimmerman's account of the incident was disputed by Martin's family after a police video surfaced showing police searching a handcuffed Zimmerman before he is led into the Sanford police department.
This certainly doesn't look like a man who police said had his nose broken and his head repeatedly smashed into the sidewalk," Martin family attorney Ben Crump said in a statement. "George Zimmerman has no apparent injuries in this video, which dramatically contradicts his version of the events of Feb. 26."
