George Clooney is on Italian Prime Minister Berlusconi's trial witness list

(CBS) - Actor George Clooney has found himself in the middle of a prostitution trial in Italy and is reportedly confused as to why.

Clooney told TMZ that he is baffled that he's been subpoenaed to testify at the prostitution trial of the Prime Minister of Italy.

Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is accused of paying to have sex with a 17-year-old Moroccan girl and then trying to cover it up, reports TMZ.

Berlusconi's lawyers say they want Clooney as a witness because the girl claims she had seen Clooney and his girlfriend at one of Berlusconi's parties. It is still unclear how that information is relevant in the trial, reports the website.

"It seems odd since I've only met Berlusconi once and that was in an attempt to get aid into Darfur," Clooney said to the website.

The trial is set to begin on April 6 in Milan.
