George Anthony was previously asked about allegations made by Casey Anthony's defense team that he had found the body of his granddaughter, Caylee, in the family pool and that he had sexually abused Casey as a child. He denied both those allegations, reports CBS affiliate WKMG.Thursday George Anthony was first asked about June 24, 2008, the day after police and witnesses said Casey Anthony had broken into his shed to obtain gas cans.
George Anthony said he went to mow his lawn, but realized that the lock on his shed had been broken and his gas cans were gone. He then testified that he filed a police report of the theft, reports the station .
According to George Anthony, his daughter Casey arrived at the home later, and when he asked her about the gas cans, she retrieved them from her trunk and told him, "Here's your (expletive) gas cans." He then said she told him she was broke and needed the gas, reports WKMG.
George Anthony said the only thing he smelled in Anthony's car was gas, but that he was not able to see inside the trunk.
A photo of one of the gas cans shows a piece of duct tape that George Anthony placed over the opening of the can because the cap was missing. The state has said that the same kind of duct tape was found on 2-year-old Caylee Anthony's skull.
Defense attorney Jose Baez asked George Anthony if he reported his granddaughter missing on June 24 when he filed a police report regarding the gas cans. George Anthony said he did not because Caylee was not missing to his knowledge at that time. George Anthony was the last person to see Caylee alive on June 16, 2008.
Earlier, in a continuation from his testimony on Wednesday, Tony Lazarro, Anthony's ex-boyfriend, was cross-examined by Baez.
Lazarro testified about Anthony's relationship with her daughter Caylee. Anthony wiped away tears as he described to jurors affectionate moments she shared with her toddler.
"From what I can remember, it was completely - she'd have a book, she'd have her teddy bear. We would go down to the pool, teaching her how to swim. Um, talk about Caylee liked Dora the Explorer. Could count to 40 in Spanish, which was pretty incredible for her age. She was a great little girl," Lazaro said, reports WKMG.
On Wednesday the state asked Lazaro about when he and Casey Anthony broke into her parents' shed to get gas to fill her car. The state asked repeatedly if he saw into Anthony's trunk when she placed the cans in her car, but he said he could not.
