The 34-year-old singer was treated for a broken nose, a concussion, cuts and bruises following the attack early Monday morning. He has since been discharged from the hospital, the Associated Press reported Tuesday.

DeGraw was walking through the city's East Village neighborhood when the incident took place. A police source told People magazine that "some kind of argument" broke out between the singer and a group of men he did not know.

He was later struck by a taxi, according to reports, before someone called 911 and he was taken to the hospital.

Police would not comment on whether DeGraw had been drinking, Reuters reports.

The singer, whose hits include "I Don't Wanna Be" and "Chariot," has been on tour with Train and Maroon 5. DeGraw has canceled appearances at upcoming concerts in New York and Massachusetts due to his injuries.

His new album, "Sweeter," is due out in September.
