"Gangster Squad" to reshoot movie theater scene

(CBS News) Warner Bros. has already pushed back the release date of "Gangster Squad," but now the studio is also reshooting scenes of the film in the wake of last month's deadly Aurora, Colo., theater shooting.

The crime drama originally included a sequence that found gun-wielding mobsters launching an attack inside Grauman's Chinese Theatre from behind the screen before spilling into the streets outside the theater.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the key sequence will now be scrapped. Instead, the action will move to the streets of Chinatown in Los Angeles.

The film's stars Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Anthony Mackie, Robert Patrick, Troy Garity and Michael Pena will head to the set on Aug. 20 for a five-day shoot, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Ruben Fleischer-directed film centers on the LAPD's battle with the mob in the 1940s and '50s.

Initially scheduled for a Sept. 7 release, the film will now hit theaters Jan. 11.
