Gang-rape of tourist in India rekindles outrage
(CBS News) A Swiss tourist on a cycling vacation through India was gang-raped Friday night in front of her husband.
Police say they're questioning suspects in the incident, which is rekindling the outrage that followed the gang-rape on a bus last December of a student who later died of her injuries.
The victim -- hooded to protect her identity -- was seen on her way to the hospital where she was treated and later released.
Meanwhile, police began searching a forested area in Northern India where the couple had been camping.
Authorities say a gang of men beat and robbed them there, then raped the woman before running away.
Within hours, young activists were protesting in the streets of the provincial capital, Bhopal.
Every day, says activist Akhilesh Jain, there are 10 to 12 incidents like this.
Backing up his claim, police in the same region Saturday paraded three men they'd just arrested.
They include the driver and conductor of a bus and were accused of gang-raping a woman passenger.
In December, huge protests erupted across India after Jyoti Singh, a physiotherapy student, was gang-raped -- also on a bus -- so violently that she later died of her injuries.
