Gaffigan on narcissism, kids and his online special

(CBS News) Jim Gaffigan does not understand why there are so many mirrors at the gym.

"The last thing I want to do see myself in a mirror," he said Friday on "CBS This Morning." "That's why I'm going to the gym."

Gaffigan is one of the top five most successful touring comedians in the country today and his CDs and DVDs have reached platinum sales. But he's taking an unusual path with his new comedy special, "Mr. Universe." It will not be sold in stores or broadcast. It is only available online, to stream or download.

Comedian Jim Gaffigan supports Woodruff Foundation

"What I would make releasing it myself versus what I would get from, you know, going with Comedy Central is eventually identical," he said. "There is some risk, but this way I can keep the price really low, and make it very easy to buy."

Gaffigan will also be donating $1 from every sale to The Bob Woodruff Foundation, a charity that helps veterans and their families.

Family is what a lot of his comedy revolves around. Gaffigan is the father of four children and he writes his material with his wife - usually over a glass of wine and after all the kids have gone to bed.

Though he gets a lot laughs from his relatable, everyday topics, he said he gets a cold reception from people when he mentions he's the father of four.

"They essentially treat you like you're Amish," he said. "They're very polite and are like, 'Well, that's one way to live your life. Can you build us one of those wood fireplaces? That would be great.'"
