Frank Sinatra's first license fetches $15K at auction

Frank Sinatra's first New Jersey driver's license has sold for $15,757 at auction.

The yellowed, text-only 1934 license was issued, typo and all, to Francis Sintra, 841 Garden Street, Hoboken, New Jersey. The minimum bid had initially been set at $500.

Sinatra's eyes, of course, are recorded as blue. His weight was 130 pounds.

The license was signed by the then-19-year-old a year before he got his first big break in the music industry, when he was given a six-month performance contract after appearing on the Major Bowes Amateur Hour.

The deal also included a 1940 letter to the N.J. Commissioner of Motor Vehicles from the lawyer of a man who'd been involved in a car crash with Sinatra, insisting the singer's driving privileges be revoked until he paid up the $157 that were owed.

Boston-based RR Auction didn't disclose the buyer.

Other items up for auction included Hugh Jackman's Wolverine claws from 2003's "X2" and Marilyn Monroe's personal shooting script from 1953's "Gentlement Prefer Blondes," which was sold for $22,689.45.
