Four Miami girls arrested after video of alleged after-school fight surfaces
(CBS/AP) OAKLAND PARK, Fla. - Four young adults were arrested for attacking another student after authorities identified their faces from a video of the attack that was posted online, CBS Miami reports.
Celia Bennett, 18, told Broward Sheriff's Office investigators she was jumped by several classmates a few blocks from the Life Skills Center, an alternative Broward County Charter school, on Wednesday after class. Bennett said she barely knew her attackers and didn't understand why she was jumped.
Bennett suffered a black eye, bruises on her neck and body, and scratches all over her body.
The attack was recorded on a cell phone and posted on YouTube and Facebook. Investigators used the video to identify at least four people who were allegedly involved.
Police arrested 20-year-old Kennyque Lawrence, 20-year-old Keisha Fradin, 18-year-old Wayneisha Jones and a female juvenile who was not identified. All are charged with one count of battery.
Ben Bennett, a retired BSO deputy and Celia's father, told CBS Miami he could barely watch the video postings of his daughter being hit. He plans to press charges and hopes the school will return to hiring school resource officers to prevent future attacks, a program which fell to budget cuts.
