Former Colorado councilman to pay for damage to jail cell
ASPEN, Colo. -- The attorney for a former councilman in the Colorado resort town of Snowmass Village says his client will have to pay for the damage he caused to a Pitkin County Jail cell before he can take a plea deal in his DUI case.
The Aspen Times reports Chris Jacobson was set to take the plea Wednesday. But his attorney says Jacobson doesn't have the thousands of dollars needed to cover the damage because he is waiting on a settlement from his divorce.
Jacobson was arrested for DUI in June and is accused of tearing off sections of a wall in the jail's isolation cell, pulling a restraining chair out of the ground and urinating on the floor.
Court documents show the estimated damage is more than $13,000.
Voters opted to recall Jacobson from office earlier this month.
