Fla. mother found dead after boyfriend reports her missing

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. -- Police say a South Florida mother who had been reported missing by her boyfriend last week has been found dead, reports CBS Miami.

Police told the station a man walking down the street discovered the body of 38-year-old Magdalena Weich in Coral Springs - northwest of Fort Lauderdale - around 6 p.m. Thursday.

Police are investigating the death as a possible homicide, reports the Sun Sentinel. There were no obvious signs of trauma on her body, but they're calling the death "suspicious in nature," according to CBS Miami.

"Based on the way her that her body was discovered, it appears that it was placed at that location and it doesn't appear to be where she was deceased. She happened to have been put there by somebody. That's why we're looking for information, if anyone saw anything in the area," Coral Springs Police Carla Kmiotek said at a press conference Friday.

Weich's live-in boyfriend Enrique Macotela reported her missing on Wednesday, according to the station. The two reportedly have been in a relationship for nine years and have a four-year-old son.

Macotela told police that Weich had walked to a Barnes & Noble about a mile away from the couple's Coral Springs home on Tuesday night, and didn't return home.

Macotela also told police that Weich had stayed home from work on Tuesday because she had an intense headache. According to a police report obtained by CBS Miami, the woman's boss reportedly told police that Macotela had called in Tuesday to report her sick, something "she found unusual because Magdalena has never called out of work."

In Macotela's account, he returned home from work Tuesday and then went to play tennis with friends, reports the station. He reportedly said he got a text message from Weich saying she was walking to the Barnes & Noble and that she would be home between 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

Macotela told police the woman had left her purse, keys and cellphone at home, reports the Sun Sentinel. When the woman didn't return home and didn't show up for work Wednesday, Macotela reportedly said he became concerned and called police.

Weich's boyfriend spoke with detectives several times, but has since requested a lawyer, the station reports.

Police tell the station they've reviewed security footage at the Barnes & Noble and couldn't find anyone matching Weich's description.

Macotela's attorney, David Kubiliun, told the Sun Sentinel on Friday that his client is "extremely distraught about what has happened" and didn't comment further.

The couple's home was searched by investigators over the weekend, the paper reports. Their child has reportedly been placed in the custody of the state Department of Children and Families.

There've been no suspects named and no arrests in the case, according to the Sun Sentinel.
