Florida man dies after being shot in dog defecation dispute
MIAMI - An argument that began when a dog defecated on a front lawn ended with the canine owner's death, reports CBS Miami.
Police say Jose Rey was walking his dog in a residential Miami neighborhood around 9:30 p.m. Saturday night when his dog relieved itself in front of a home. Rey was then confronted by Omar Rodriguez, 66, whose son lives in the house, according to a police report.
During the argument, Rodriguez grabbed a gun and fired at least two shots, according to police.
A witness told police Rey's wife ran to his side and Rodriguez threatened to shoot her too if she didn't leave him alone.
Rey went through multiple surgeries, but was unable to survive the gunshot wounds, his family told CBS Miami.
Rodriguez, who was not injured during the argument, was transported to Kendall Regional Medical Center to be checked out. He was transported to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center after getting cleared by the hospital.
Neighbors told CBS Miami that Rodriguez doesn't live in the neighborhood, but people are familiar with him because Rodriguez has regularly filed police complaints against several neighbors. Police records show Rodriguez had called police more than 90 times in the past.
Rodriguez is charged with attempted second degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. But those charges will most likely be upgraded soon.
