Fla. 911 dispatcher accused of molesting boy, 11
PALM BAY, Fla. - A Florida 911 dispatcher is facing charges that she had a sexual relationship with an 11-year-old boy, reports CBS affiliate WKMG.
Amanda Chandler, 40, a dispatcher with Palm Bay police, is on medical watch after attempting to commit suicide Saturday, the station reports. Her alleged months-long relationship the the boy, her neighbor, was uncovered after police responded to a report that she had overdosed on pills.
Chandler's husband reportedly told the station he had argued with her after he became suspicious she was having a sexual relationship with the boy, who she let sleep over because he had a difficult home life.
On several occasions, he told police he would catch them cuddling together in bed, and in one instance it appeared they had just finished kissing, reports the station, citing a police report.
The husband reportedly told investigators he had intercepted text messages from the boy, who was proclaiming his love for Chandler.
She faces eight counts of capital sexual battery and five counts of lewd and lascivious conduct, and could face life in prison if convicted, reports the station.
She had reportedly worked with Palm Bay police for three years.
"We are sickened by this news, obviously," said Palm Bay police investigator John Lesh. "It's disgusting."
