Flint, Michigan, area residents rescued from homes by firefighters after floodwaters follow heavy rains
(AP) GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Firefighters in the Flint area used a boat to get people out of apartments and townhouses after floodwaters following heavy rains left people trapped in their homes.
The Flint Journal reports buildings were evacuated at Knollwood Apartments in Genesee County's Grand Blanc Township following the heavy rains Thursday and early Friday. Some vehicles are almost fully submerged, basements are flooded and water came into the first floor of some buildings.
Flooding caused problems for motorists, closing some roadways in the Detroit and Flint areas.
Nearly a dozen cars were stranded and northbound Interstate 75 was closed Friday morning in Genesee County's Flint Township, with up to 4 feet of water on the roadway.
A flash flood warning was issued for the Flint area. More than 5 inches of rain fell.
