Firefighter's search-and-rescue K9 reported stolen, $3,500 reward offered for dog's return
A South Carolina firefighter is desperate to get his rescue K9 back after the dog was apparently stolen from his car. Carl Hall, who works for the Horry County Fire Rescue, is spreading the word on social media, hoping to get his dog back and offering a reward.
The dog named Hope personally belongs to Hall, Myrtle Beach Online reports. The firefighter says he was doing training on Tuesday night in Myrtle Beach and when he was wrapping up, he put Hope in the back of his car. Hall went to pick up the dog's props, and when he returned, he noticed the car door was open.
Hope was gone, along with some of Hall's equipment.
The trained K9 is worth $10,000, according to Myrtle Beach Online. Gear worth $420, including a knife, first aid kit, and a canine GPS tracker, was also missing from the car.
The 3-year-old rescue K9 does not work for the Horry County Rescue, but Hall does, a spokesperson confirmed. Hall posted a photo of the 65-pound German shepherd on Facebook. In his plea for Hope, he offered a $3,500 reward for the dog's return.
The Horry County Fire Rescue team also posted about the incident on Wednesday, asking others to share the post.
Hall's Facebook post with a photo of Hope was shared over 11,000 times -- giving him "hope" someone will recognize the dog and help bring her home.
