"Fifty Shades of Grey" is fastest selling R-rated movie in Fandango history
Moviegoers are ready to heat up their Valentine's Day with "Fifty Shades of Grey."
Advance tickets for the erotic novel's big-screen adaptation only just went on sale Sunday, but it's already become the fastest-selling R-rated film in Fandango's history, outpacing previous top advance ticket-sellers like "Sex and the City 2," "The Hangover" sequels and "Gone Girl."
"It's tracking to be Fandango's fastest-selling R-rated movie of all time," Fandango Chief Correspondent Dave Karger said in a statement. "Very few books can claim true national phenomenon status -- and 'Fifty Shades' ranks with 'Twilight,' 'The Hunger Games' and 'Gone Girl' as novels that entered the zeitgeist from coast to coast.."
The movie, starring Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, also had the biggest first week of sales for a non-sequel movie since the first 'Hunger Games,' which still holds the record.
"Fifty Shades of Grey" hits theaters on Feb. 13. The latest trailer for the film, which premiered last weekend during the Golden Globes, can be seen below:
