"Fargo" TV adaptation in the works
(ETonline) The Coen Brothers are taking their comedic crime drama Fargo to the small screen.
Deadline reports cable channel FX is working to adapt the wildly popular 1996 movie into a TV show, with the Coen boys, who directed the movie, serving as the executive producers. The film follows a pregnant Minnesota cop, played by Frances McDormand, who seeks to take down two clumsy criminals, played by Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare, who are hired to kidnap the wife of a car salesman (William H. Macy).
The indie flick was well received in 1996 and earned seven Oscar nominations and two wins for Best Script and Best Actress.
This isn't the first attempt at adapting the movie for TV. In 2003, MGM tried to bring the story to the small screen and have Nurse Jackie star Edie Falco and Harry's Law actress Kathy Bates star in the remake. This effort, however, did not involve the Coen brothers.
