Family of beaten Giants fan Bryan Stow grateful for arrest
(CBS/KCBS/AP) SAN FRANCISCO - Relatives of Bryan Stow, a San Francisco Giants fan who was brutally beaten outside Dodger Stadium two months ago, were grateful Monday after police arrested Giovanni Ramirez, a suspect with a violent criminal record.
Stow's parents and two sisters made a brief appearance outside San Francisco General Hospital, looking relieved but still shaken by the beating.
Stow's family members never gave up hope that someone would be arrested, said his sister Erin Collins. They thanked the Los Angeles Police Department for its "exhaustive efforts."
"Bryan has a long road ahead of him, but we are thankful that this suspect is in custody and is unable to do this to another family," Collins said.
Stow, a 42-year-old paramedic, remains in critical but stable condition under heavy sedation to prevent seizures caused by the traumatic brain injury he suffered in the March 31 attack.
LAPD Chief Charlie Beck said Ramierz was taken into custody early Sunday morning as detectives and SWAT team members working on a tip from a parole officer served a search warrant at an East Hollywood apartment building.
Ramirez was booked for assault with a deadly weapon and was being held on $1 million bail, reports CBS affiliate KCBS.
Sources told KCBS that Ramirez has a prior criminal record including violent incidents, including an attempted robbery. Ramirez was out on parole at the time of Stow's attack.
