Facebook launches Sports Stadium for big game info
Facebook is looking to get into the sports arena. The social network unveiled Facebook Sports Stadium on Wednesday, a way for users to experience big sporting events as they happen live. Not coincidentally, this is just in time for Super Bowl 50.
Right now, it is available for American football games, but will soon support other sporting events from around the world. The feature is available to iPhone users first and will roll out to "other platforms in the coming weeks," according to a press release.
Facebook boasted that with 650 million fans, it's "the world's largest stadium," and said it was natural to add a sports-lover's hub to the site, given that so many users already turn to Facebook to share updates about major games and events.
Through this new application, users can see live updating scores, play-by-play comments and posts from their friends, and commentary from experts -- everyone from journalists to teams and the leagues themselves, along with links to their official Facebook pages. There's also info on where to watch the game on TV.
"Sports is a global interest that connects people around the world. This product makes connecting over sports more fun and engaging, and we will continue listening to feedback to make it even better," Facebook announced.
How do you access it? For now, users will have to search for the specific game itself on Facebook. The company said they will "surface new ways to get there as the product evolves."
Of course, Super Bowl 50 will air on CBS Sunday, Feb. 7. Check out complete coverage on CBSSports.com.
