Ernest Borgnine To Get SAG Award

Ernest Borgnine, a 93-yar-old actor who earne dan Emmy nomination last year for a guest appearance on "ER," will be honored by the Screen Actors Guild next year for lifetime achievement.

SAG National President Ken Howard said in a statement Wednesday that Borgnine has boundless energy "which, at 93, is still a hallmark of his remarkably busy life and career."

He has appeared in more than 200 movies nd reportedly has three movies scfheduled for release in the next year.

Borgnine made his acting debut on Broadway, playing a nurse in "Harvey" in 1949 and made his mark in film as Sgt. "Fatso" Judson in 1953's "From Here to Eternity."

Two years later, he won a best-actor Oscar for his performance as a shy butccher in the 1955 film "Marty." His competition that year included Spencer Tracy, James Dean and James Cagney.

Borgnine's TV credits include the 1960s series "McHale's Navy." He was nominated for an Emmy for his guest role last year in the final episode of "ER."

He will receive the award for career achievement and humanitarian accomplishment at the 17th annual SAG Awards in Los Angeles on Jan. 30, 2011.
