Emanuel Azenberg to receive lifetime achievement Tony Award

(CBS News) Emanuel "Manny" Azenberg, a longtime Broadway producer, is this year's recipient of the special Tony Award for lifetime achievement in theater..

He will be presented the award at the 2012 Tony Awards ceremony  on Sunday, June 10.

Azenberg has produced 65 productions for Broadway, receiving 25 Tony Award nominations and eight Tony Awards.

He has produced more than 20 Neil Simon shows and other shows including, "The Lion in Winter," "Master Harold...and the boys," "Stoppard's "The Real Thing," "Sunday in the Park with George," and "Ain't Misbehavin'."

"When you look at the criteria for the Lifetime Achievement Tony Award, you'll see that it reads 'Manny Azenberg,' " said  a statement  from Charlotte St. Martin, executive director of The Broadway League, and Heather Hitchens, executive director of the American Theatre Wing. "It is our absolute honor to pay tribute to the man that exemplifies the gold standard of Broadway."

In addition to producing, Azenberg has been a professor at Duke University for the last 25 years.

Tony Award nominations will be announced May 1 and the award show will be broadcast live from the Beacon Theatre on June 10 on CBS.
