Edit Pivot Tables in Excel with Pivot4U

A few months back, Dave showed you how to use Excel pivot tables to better visualize your spreadsheet data. (If you missed the post, be sure to check it out -- it has video!)

Of course, if you've embraced pivot tables, you've probably discovered their Achilles' heel: They can't be edited. Enter Pivot4U, an Excel add-in that lets you edit pivot tables.

Specifically, Pivot4U makes it possible to change the data within pivot cells. Just click on Excel's Add-Ins tab, choose Pivot4U On, click any cell in the pivot table, and then change the value. All totals are recalculated automatically.

Pivot4U costs $19.95 until the end of July, at which time the price jumps to $39.95. Fortunately, there's a 14-day trial version available for download. You can also grab this example/tutorial spreadsheet to see Pivot4U in action.

Curiously, the developer doesn't list any system requirements, so I have to assume the add-in is compatible with all versions of Excel (or at the very least, Excel 2003 and 2007).

What do you think? Is this add-in worth $20? $40? I'm not much of an Excel user, so I can't really say, but I do know some people who looooove their pivot tables. For them, this could be a dream come true.
