Celebs offer powerful message on Ebola

Their silence speaks louder than words. At least, that's the idea behind a new ad campaign featuring some of the biggest stars of music and film who are joining forces -- in silence -- to call attention to the Ebola crisis.

There have been more than 14,000 cases of Ebola in West Africa since the outbreak first began earlier this year. What started with a few patients in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone has quickly spiraled out of control and turned into one of the biggest public health challenges the world has seen in the last decade.

On Wednesday, the humanitarian organization ONE.org released what may be the quietest celebrity-supported public service commercial ever created. The video, which debuted online, features ONE co-founder Bono along with Akon, Ben Affleck, Connie Britton, Matt Damon, Will Ferrell, Morgan Freeman, Ellie Goulding, Danai Gurira, Thandie Newton, Vincent Cassel and football star Per Mertesacker.

That's quite the roster of celebs who usually have plenty to say. Instead, they all sit still and silent, a visual metaphor for how the world has failed to respond adequately to this deadly disease.

Along with the video, ONE.org released an interactive Ebola Response Tracker, which provides information on how much aid countries throughout the world have pledged and distributed.

They note a disappointing trend: many of the nations that have pledged money to support efforts have only actually provided a fraction of the funds promised.
