Duchess Kate to miss "The Hobbit" premiere due to acute morning sickness

The Duchess of Cambridge has cancelled a planned appearance at the U.K. premiere of "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" due to acute morning sickness.

Palace officials said Tuesday that Prince William's pregnant wife, Kate, will continue to rest rather than go to the show on Wednesday.

"The Duchess of Cambridge will not attend 'The Hobbit' premiere tomorrow evening and will continue to rest privately," a spokesman for the couple said, according to the Daily Mail.

William is still planning to attend.

The event is a fundraiser for the Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund, a U.K. charity that supports film and television industry employees and their families in times of hardship.

The former Kate Middleton, 30, has cancelled all public engagements since her brief hospitalization last week for severe nausea and dehydration. She is suffering from a condition known as hyperemesis gravidarum, which causes sustained nausea and discomfort.

Her pregnancy is still in early stages.

On Saturday, William, 30, attended a charity gala at London's Royal Albert Hall, where he reportedly said of Kate's condition, "They shouldn't call it morning sickness as it's a day and all night sickness." The next day, he pulled out of a planned appearance at a military event in order to spend time with his wife.
