'Donny And Marie' Revisited

This may be hard to believe for anyone who remembers the "Donny and Marie Show" from the 1970s: Donny Osmond, a teen in those days, is now a grandfather!

But he doesn't look it!

Now, his four favorite "Donny and Marie" shows have been put on a two-disc DVD, "The Best of Donny and Marie: Volume 1."

Osmond told Dave Price he handpicked one show from each of the four years the variety series aired, from 1976 to 1979 — an era when variety shows were a staple of prime-time TV.

Segments that made the cut include concert spots by Tom Jones, Engelbert Humperdinck, and K.C. and the Sunshine Band, and a "whodunit" skit with Bob Hope, Cheryl Ladd, Harvey Korman and Buddy Hackett.

"I had so much fun reliving all these memories of working with Lucille Ball and Bob Hope and John Wayne," Osmond told Price.

"I kept all the old audiotapes, the 16-tracks, the 24-tracks. Everybody said. 'Throw them away, you won't need them anymore.' Well, because I kept them, I was able to remix the whole show in stereo and surround-sound, because all those shows were done in mono back then. So … it's the first time you hear (the shows) in stereo."

Osmond is currently on Broadway as the villain, Gaston, in "Beauty and the Beast." He's also working on his 55th album, which is set to be released in March.
