How much did Donald Trump draw at first joint fundraiser with RNC?
Editor's note: This story has been updated with new information from sources on the amount of money raised.
Donald Trump drew in over $6 million at his first joint fundraiser with the Republican National Committee (RNC), sources with direct knowledge of the fundraising event told CBS News' Major Garrett.
The amount, a total $6.6 million, was divided among Trump's campaign, the RNC and various state Republican parties.
Trump's presidential campaign can only accept a maximum of $5,400 per individual donor for his primary and general election campaigns.
Trump Victory, the joint fundraising committee set up in an agreement inked between Trump and the RNC last week, can take up to $449,400 per donor. According to a Wall Street Journal report, several donors at the event gave the maximum amount. More than a hundred donors were in attendance from a variety of industries, including the tech world, finance, real estate and entertainment.
Trump, who has thus far lent his campaign at least $43 million, had promised to "self-fund" during the primary season but has recently opened up to hosting fundraisers for the general election, which the campaign expects to cost about $1 billion.
In an interview with the Associated Press this week, however, the New York real estate magnate has said he is only holding events with wealthy donors because the "RNC really wanted me to do it, and I want to show good spirit."
"I was very happy to continue to go along the way I was," he told the news outlet.
Wednesday's $25,000-a-plate fundraiser was held at the California residence of Tom Barrack, founder of Los Angeles investment firm Colony Capital Inc.
