Donald Trump leads Ted Cruz in two new national polls
Donald Trump continues to dominate the Republican race for the nomination, according to two new national polls.
Trump leads Ted Cruz by a margin of 39 percent to 17 percent among GOP/GOP-leaning voters nationwide, according to an NBC News/SurveyMonkey poll. Cruz has dropped four points since last week in the tracking poll, and Marco Rubio is the only other candidate with support in double digits, at 10 percent. Moreover, Trump also has a 17-point advantage over Cruz among evangelicals, and he leads among men and women, as well as across all age groups.
Trump also reached a new high nationally in a CNN/ORC poll released Tuesday, with 41 percent support among Republican voters. Two-thirds of these voters believe he is most likely to win the GOP nomination. Cruz, in second, registered 19 percent support, followed by Rubio with eight percent.
According to the CNN/ORC survey, seven in 10 of Trump's supporters say their minds are made up, and he holds a strong lead in several subgroups: among men, women, young, old, evangelicals, and conservatives. He holds a less substantial lead among tea party supporters -- 37 percent, compared to Cruz's 34 percent -- and among degree holders -- 26 percent to Cruz's 20 percent.
The most recent CBS News/New York Times poll shows similar results for Republicans, with 36 percent support for Trump, compared to 19 percent for Cruz.
