Trump begins to offer Cabinet appointments
CBS News’ Major Garrett reports that the president-elect began making offers for some posts in his administration Wednesday, according to two sources with direct knowledge of the deliberations. The following candidates, Garrett adds, are the overwhelming favorites for key positions:
- Lt.-Gen. Michael Flynn (ret.): National Security Adviser
- Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani: Secretary of State
- Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Alabama: Attorney General
- Steve Mnuchin: Treasury Secretary
- Rep. Jeff Miller, R-Florida: Veterans Affairs Secretary
All of these candidates are highly regarded by Trump, and they’re at the top of the transition team recommendations lists, Garrett reports.
Sessions, in fact, sat in on Trump’s hour-plus meeting on Supreme Court nominees, and he was the only non-campaign, non-family member in attendance, a clear sign that he’s the top pick for attorney general.
There could be announcements on this Thursday, Garrett says -- this was being debated in Trump Tower Wednesday night.
