Dominique Waived By Magic

Thirty-nine-year-old Dominique Wilkins, who earned the nickname "The Human Highlight Film" during his prime in the NBA, was waived by the Orlando Magic Monday.

The league's eighth all-time leading scorer and a nine-time NBA All-Star averaged just 5.0 points and 2.6 rebounds in 27 games as a reserve forward for Orlando, where he was a teammate of his younger brother Gerald.

Wilkins averaged 24.8 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game over his stellar 15-year NBA career. He has 26,668 points, just 42 behind Hall of Fame guard Oscar Robertson, who stands seventh on the all-time NBA scoring list.

Prior to signing as a free agent with Orlando in February, Wilkins had not played in the NBA since the 1996-97 campaign, when he averaged 18.2 points per game for the San Antonio Spurs. He spent part of last season in Italy and had previously enjoyed a successful stint playing in Greece.

In his prime, the high-flying Wilkins played for the Atlanta Hawks. In 1986, he led the NBA in scoring, averaging 30.3 points per game for Atlanta.
