Doc Gooden Cuffed For DUI with Kid in Car

Former New York Met and Yankee pitcher Dwight Gooden was arrested in New Jersey Tuesday for crashing his car while under the influence of drugs with a kid traveling as a passenger, police said, according to WCBS in New York.

Franklin Lakes police Capt. Joseph Seltenrich said the former star pitcher crashed his car on Old Mill Road around 8:50 a.m. It wasn't clear whose child it was.

Police arrested the 45-year-old Gooden after an on-scene investigation.

Gooden, of Franklin Lakes, NJ, was charged with driving under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, endangering the welfare of a child, driving while under the influence of drugs, DWI with a child passenger, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, reckless driving, failure to keep right and failure to notify change of address regarding driver's license.

Gooden was released on his own recognizance.

They didn't say what drugs they believe Gooden was on.

He has waged a well-publicized battle with alcohol and drugs, including cocaine.
