Dismembered body found outside of Ga. apartment may be missing law grad Lauren Giddings
(CBS/WMAZ/AP) MACON, Ga. - Georgia police say a dismembered body found Thursday outside a Macon apartment building may be missing law school graduate Lauren Giddings.
The body was found only feet away from the apartment building where Giddings, who was last seen Saturday, lived.
Giddings was a recent graduate of the Mercer University's Walter F.
George School of Law and was preparing to take the bar exam. She was
last seen Saturday and reported missing Thursday.
According to the Atlantic Journal-Constitution Giddings reportedly said in an email to a friend that she was concerned for her safety and believed someone had tried to break into her apartment.
Police have not yet identified the body and say they are currently treating the death as a separate case. Police say they're searching for clues in the two cases, but aren't sure yet if they're connected, reports CBS affiliate WMAZ.
Asked Thursday afternoon if the body found is that of Giddings, Macon Police Chief Mike Burns said: "We're not sure yet."
Burns said Thursday the department has two "persons of interest" in the investigation of the dead body and he hoped to have suspects in custody later Thursday night. Burns also said the dead woman was a victim of foul play.
Police said they hoped to identify the body Friday.
