Lionsgate is working on a new version of the 1987 film "Dirty Dancing," which starred the late Patrick Swayze as a hunky dance instructor who falls in love with wealthy teenager Jennifer Grey as Frances "Baby" Houseman.

The studio said Monday that Kenny Ortega, who choreographed the original film, will direct the remake.

Ortega recently served as the director of the Michael Jackson concert movie "This Is It." He also directed the "High School Musical" movies.

He says he is eager to discover and cast "the next breakout triple-threats" to define dancing for a generation, the way Swayze did in the original "Dirty Dancing."

The announcement comes two months before the remakeof the 1984 film "Footloose," which starred Kevin Bacon, hits theaters.

That production stars Julianne Hough and Kenny Wormald as Bacon's Ren MacCormack.
