(CBS) If Rapper Vanilla Ice did predict Justin Bieber's fame will be fleeting, he should know.

Ice hit it big in 1990, when he was just 16, with the song "Ice Ice Baby," which sold more than 100 million copies.

He failed to connect with subsequent albums and quickly faded from the headlines. Today, he is working with the DIY Network on a home renovation series.

In an interview timed to coincide with the debut of his DIY show, Ice, whose real name is Rob Van Winkle, reportedly told the Huffington Post, "My prediction about Bieber is that he's going to go through one of those weekends that lasts a few years because he's had such success as a child act."

He added, "Then something else new will come along and he'll be forgotten and he can try to put all the pieces back together, so it's going to be entertaining to watch."

But Ice has since backed away from his comments, saying they were taken out of context. The Huffington Post stands by its story and says it had audio of the interview.

The first hour-long episode of the "The Vanilla Ice Project" features a $30,000 makeover of Erica and Sean Heatley's small guest house in Texas.
