Dick Van Dyke to receive 2012 SAG Life Achievement Award
(CBS/AP) LOS ANGELES - Dick Van Dyke will receive the Screen Actors Guild's highest honor: The Life Achievement Award.
The 86-year-old entertainer, who has won a Tony, a Grammy and five Emmy Awards, will accept the honor at the annual Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony in January.
"Dick is the consummate entertainer - an enormously talented performer whose work has crossed nearly every major category of entertainment," Screen Actors Guild & American Federation of Television and Radio Artists co-president Ken Howard said in a statement Tuesday.
Van Dyke is being honored for his 60-year career, which includes his hit TV show and film credits such as "Bye Bye Birdie" and "Mary Poppins," and his commitment to philanthropic causes.
Last year, he presented the same award to Mary Tyler Moore, who played his wife on "The Dick Van Dyke Show."
The 19th annual SAG Awards will be presented on Jan. 27.
