"Diary Of A Wimpy Kid" cast talk "Rodrick Rules"
(CBS) Move over Harry Potter, the "Wimpy Kid" is coming back to theaters and grabbing the spotlight.
Following the success of last year's "Diary Of A Wimpy Kid" movie adaptation and combined with book sales of over 40 million copies of the popular children's series (that's right, 40 million), the "Wimpy Kid" cast returns and this time older brother Rodrick rules.
The three young principal actors from "Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules" (Zachary Gordon, Robert Capron, and Devon Bostick) spoke in an interview for CBSNews.com about their return to the big screen. And big changes are ahead.
In the titular role as prankster drummer Rodrick, actor Devon Bostick said viewers should expect to see a lot more screen time of his menacing character. But he's not all bad, as Bostick pointed out, "In the second [film], we see many colors of Rodrick, many different sides."
Rodrick terrorizes little protagonist Greg (Zachary Gordon) on more than one occasion, but Gordon says the title of this film may be a little misleading.
"Greg isn't really that wimpy. He just looks like a wimpy kid," Gordon said in reference to his own physique, "I mean he's scrawny and small. He really doesn't have the personality of a wimpy kid. He's just himself, and he's a little bit manipulative. We don't really like manipulative people, but he comes off as really likeable."
Parents should brace themselves for a trip to the theaters this weekend. "Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules" opens nationwide Friday. And industry experts are already predicting ticket sales to be anything but wimpy.
