Denzel Washington to receive Cecil B. DeMille Award at Golden Globes
Denzel Washington is having a good year.
Washington, who recently nabbed a 10-year contract to direct the 10 "Pittsburgh Cycle" plays on HBO, was just announced as the 2016 recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille Award. The award is given once a year to stars who have made "outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment."
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced on Tuesday that the two-time Golden Globe Award-winner will receive the honor at the 2016 show on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016, hosted by Ricky Gervais.
The President of HFPA, Lorenzo Soria, said in a statement, "Washington's long and storied career is earmarked by his countless roles in front and behind the camera. It is the HFPA's privilege to honor his contributions to the entertainment industry with the Cecil B. DeMille Award."
Washington is in excellent company: Past recipients have included George Clooney, Jodie Foster, Morgan Freeman and Robert De Niro.
As an actor and filmmaker, Washington has racked up seven Golden Globe nominations in the past, with two wins. He has also received two Oscars, two Emmys and even a Grammy.
The 2016 Golden Globe Awards will air on NBC on Jan. 10. from the Beverly Hilton hotel.
