Denver New Year's revelers offered free cab rides

DENVER New Year's revelers who had too much to drink ringing in 2013 don't have to worry about getting home thanks to a Colorado attorney, CBS Denver station KCNC-TV reports.

Attorney Michael Sawaya said he'll pay for cab rides for partiers who don't have designated drivers or don't want to take light rail.

"For anybody that's over 18 that sends us the bill for $35 within the Denver metropolitan area," Sawaya said.

He said he started offering to pay for the rides after suffering a personal loss.

"I had a sister that died in a car accident involving alcohol when she was 16, really beautiful girl, and I've had thousands of cases, a few hundred involving alcohol, where people have been injured or killed," Sawaya said.

He said one person's consumption of too much alcohol could affect the lives of many other people.

"I'm what you call deadly serious, and I'm serious about alcohol and driving," he said. "It's awful, it ruins lives. People that get the DUI have their lives ruined, people that get hurt have their lives more ruined, yes, and people that get killed got no more life."
