Dems Fill Fall Schedule With Wall Street Hearings

In times of crisis, Washington is at least good for the bright lights of a congressional hearing.

So now that the bailouts have happened on Wall Street and the blame game is in full swing, it must be time for committee chairmen to yell at a handful of witnesses, right? Indeed, Speaker Nancy Pelosi has just released a full schedule of committee investigations and hearings that will keep the Wall Street meltdown in the spotlight through October, even after Congress has adjourned for the elections.

Witnesses include Lehman Brothers executives, Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and regulators of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Oversight Committee Chairman Henry Waxman (D-Calif.), has even announced a "Lehman-AIG tip line" for people to call with tips. Probably not stock tips either.

"It is imperative to get to the root of this crisis and restore confidence in the American economy," Pelosi said in a statement.
