Del Negro Becomes A Buck

Vinny Del Negro, who kept active during the lockout by playing overseas, has agreed in principle to a multi-year deal with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Financial terms were not disclosed for the free agent guard, who is scheduled to undergo a physical on Tuesday and practice with the team shortly thereafter.

The 32-year-old Del Negro had been playing professionally in Italy and his contract allowed him to return to the NBA at the end of the lockout.

Del Negro played the past six seasons with the San Antonio Spurs and averaged 9.5 points and 3.4 assists in 54 games during the 1997-98 campaign. He has averaged 10.4 points, 3.4 assists and 2.6 rebounds in 589 career games over his eight-year career, which began with Sacramento in 1988.

"Vinny Del Negro is a another proven veteran who solidifies our backcourt with his shooting, ball-handling, experience and versatility," Bucks general manager Bob Weinhauer said. "He is a multi-dimensional player that will give coach (George) Karl the flexibility that his offensive and defensive systems require."

Del Negro is the second outside scoring threat added by the Bucks. Free agent Del Curry, who spent the last 10 seasons with the Charlotte Hornets, was signed last week.

A career 84 percent (953-of-1,140) free throw shooter, Del Negro holds the Spurs franchise record for the most consecutive foul shots made, hitting 50 straight in 1993-94.

His best season was 1995-96, when he started all 82 games for the Spurs and averaged 14.5 points and 3.8 assists.
