Head, leg and hands reportedly found floating in park pond
TOKYO -- Japanese police are attempting to determine the identity and cause of death of a person after a body part was found floating in a pond Thursday in a quiet residential area of Tokyo.
Tokyo metropolitan police said a passer-by reported finding the body part on the pond in the city's Himonya park.
Murders are relatively rare in Japan. The massive search in the upscale neighborhood captured national attention and was shown repeatedly on television talk shows.
Police said investigators found a few other parts and are still searching for the rest of the body to determine its identity and cause of death.
Media reports said the parts that were found included the head, a right leg and hands.
