Dan Aykroyd praises new "Ghostbusters" film
Original "Ghostbusters" star Dan Aykroyd tried to calm some of the online uproar about the franchise's upcoming reboot -- with little success.
Aykroyd took to Facebook on Sunday to offer his praise after seeing an advance screening of Paul Feig's new film, which has seen a startling amount of online criticism since it was first announced.
"As originator of the original: Saw test screening of new movie," Aykroyd posted. "Apart from brilliant, genuine performances from the cast both female and male, it has more laughs and more scares than the first two films, plus Bill Murray is in it!"
And he plans on seeing the film again once it hits theaters in July: "As one of millions of man-fans and Ray Stantz, I'm paying to see that and bringing all my friends," Aykryod, who played Stantz in the first two films, added.
But if the "Ghostbusters" and "Ghostbusters II" star was looking to mollify some of his films' fans who have been especially vocal in their dislike for the new venture, his efforts might have backfired, as many comments on the post seemed to turn on Aykroyd himself.
"So basically your saying this ghostbusters movie is better than the originals? What a way to s**t on ghostbusters," one fan responded.
"This comment of your reeks of BS. how much cash did you get paid to make this public service announcement to bolster this crap-ass movie?" wrote another.
"Ghostbusters" will be released July 15, 2016.
