Dallas police fatally shoot armed sex offender
DALLAS -- Dallas police shot and killed a 59-year-old man registered as a sex offender after the man brandished a revolver and refused to disarm.
The shooting happened about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at a street corner in the North Oak Cliff section of the city about a mile southwest of downtown.
Police say a tip led officers to Joe Cody, who was sought on a parole violation. Assistant Chief Randy Blankenbaker says that when four officers approached, including three from the sexual offender's unit, Cody brandished a handgun and refused demands to disarm. All four officers opened fire, killing him.
Blankenship says it's not yet clear if Cody fired any shots.
